Arcanjo's first release "Torment Alive" has blown me away with great thrashing metal, modern tunes and tons of hot guitar-riffs. These hopefuls are one of a few bands who are worthy to call "The next generation of Thrash Metal". I met Arcanjo's guitar player Alan via e-mail. Let's go.

Arcanjo

1. Hello Alan, let me ask you something about your band Arcanjo and your direction into Thrash Metal. How long Arcanjo exists as a band and who are the other members?
Arcanjo was created in 1994. In the beginning, Arcanjo played funk rock like Faith No More. In the course of the years, Arcanjo had many line ups and took another way to make music. In 1999, Arcanjo recorded a demo called "Russian Roulette" which sounds almost like thrash metal. Today, Arcanjo is: Alan Nevz (g), Julio Fricks (d), Priscila Frazão (b) and we are looking for a new vocalist.

2. Your current CD "Torment Alive" is a live-recording. Why have you decide to make a live album and not a studio album? How are the reactions to this one?
We intended to record a studio album, but Soul Factor invited us to record a live split-CD with them. During the mix, Salmus Produções hired Arcanjo and decided to release "Torment Alive" without Soul Factor who released their album called "Live". "Torment Alive" is a debut album from a Christian Metal Band. According to Salmus Produções, we have already sold around 2000 copies of "Torment Alive". We are very surprised with this information, because christian metal bands don't have a big market in brazilian christian music or brazilian metal music. We are very proud of it.

3. Before "Torment Alive" was released, you made a demo-tape called "Russian Roulette". Is it still available or sold out?
Unfortunately, "Russian Roulette" is sold out. There's no more copies left for sale.

4. You are coming from a country where Heavy Metal is a great market. The Brazilian people love Metal and give more personal support to this style of music than in the US or in Europe. In your opinion, what is the reason for this phenomenon?
The Brazilian people love music in general. You can listen to music in every social event in Brazil. The biggest problem about music in Brazil is those companies and labels investing their money in trash/disgusting/terrible music (or pop music, both are the same thing). Pop music guarantee good return on investment. Rock bands are peripherals in the brazilian music market. It's hard to get a CD of underground bands from Europe or the US.

5. Do you have contacts to other Brazilian bands like Soul Factor, Trino or Skymetal? I'm amazed about the great number of christian bands in your country. Through Flavio/Metal Mission and Cassio from Extreme Brutal Death we get substantial information about new bands and forthcoming outputs.
Yes, we do. Arcanjo and Soul Factor live in the same state in Brazil and they have made some shows together. We've already played some shows with Trino and Skymetal as well. Flávio and Cassio are the main figures of the christian metal media. They have been done a great job and have provided much support to christian metal in Brazil. God bless them!

6. What kind of spiritual backing do you have? Have you got a home church or a special group, where you can exchange questions about your relationship with God?
Each member of Arcanjo is a member of a church. It's a rule. To play for Arcanjo you have to belong to a church.

7. Here in Germany we have only a handful Christian Thrash and Death Metal bands. But I think, they are really good musicians and willing to be professional in their musical direction. Have you ever heard from Sacrificium, Noiz, Acoustic Torment or Adorned Graves? Do you wish to play or tour with them in Brazil and Germany ... okay, this is really a dream of the future but I wanna help you with all my power that this dream comes true. :-)
Yes, we have already heard about those bands, but as I mentioned before, it's hard to get international material. Julio (d) has a sample of Acoustic Torment. Anyway, it's a pleasure to play with bands from other countries, because we can exchange experience, information and we can pray for each other. Maybe if those guys come and play on tour in Brazil, they'll go crazy! Brazilian people are very friendly. This is the reason for unforgetable performances of foreign bands in Brazil. However, these bands have to be careful: if a band is very bad the audience will boo ... Brazilians are very honest.

8. You put a Living Sacrifice cover song on your record. I love the older material from Living Sacrifice, their first record is one of the best Christian Thrash albums ever. Admittedly I was a little bit disappointed about their "Hammering Process" release, but "Conceived In Fire" is a good mixture of all, what they've produced in the past. How big are the influences of this great band on Arcanjo?
We agree with it. "Reborn" and "Conceived In Fire" are the biggest influences from Living Sacrifice on Arcanjo's music. Like you, Julio (d) was a little bit disappointed about "Hammering Process", but Alan (g) likes this one a little bit! For Arcanjo, "Reborn" is one of the best albums of heavy metal music albums. Good riffs, good voices, outstanding drum work.

9. What can we expect from Arcanjo in the future? A next and the first studio-album?
You can expect heavier riffs, insane vocals, ritualistic drum work. On December 2003 or January 2004, Arcanjo's new album will be avaliable.

10. Any last words to the CrossOver readers?
Be on the look out for Arcanjo's release. You can expect great new things, soon we'll update our site (www.arcanjoband.cjb.net). Peace! No war!

Thank you so much for the hopeful news, peace and blessings to Arcanjo!
